ASTRO LESSONS: | Signs | Planets | Angles/Orbs | Houses | Sidereal/Tropical | Color/Music |
Sidereal I go by the SIDEREAL system of astrology which goes by the STARS; while the most popular astrology in the USA is "Tropical" astrology which goes by the SEASONS. Originally, astrologers went by the Stars. Then around 200 AD, famous astronomer Ptolemy instead of calculation by the Stars, he just calculated based on the Seasons, the first day of Spring the Sun enters Aries, and it did 2,000 years ago; but due to a 24,000 year cycle/wobble in earths tilt, and time over 2,000 years, the Sun is 5 degrees of Pisces on the first day of spring (vernal equinox), and there are 30 degrees in a sign, so it takes 25 more degrees, the sun moves a degree a day, so the sun does not really enter Aries till around 25 days after the first day of spring (vernal equinox). There was no Tropical astrology before Ptolemy. The 2 systems, Tropical and Sidereal matched up briefly during his lifetime. Look at the chart of Sigmund Freud, leading Psychologist: by the Tropical system Venus and North Node in Aries the sign of the mind and psychology, but by the Sidereal system (stars) he had Venus, North Node, Pluto, Sun, Uranus all in Aries, the sign of the Mind. Another example: Joan Rivers had Jupiter/Exuberance aligned with Mars/Humor in the Tropical sign of Virgo/health or Leo/TheStage and show biz by the Sidereal system. Most astrologers have not looked at their own Sidereal chart? But comparing your chart with others, only compare a Tropical chart to a Tropical chart; or a Sidereal chart to a Sidereal chart (else you get a "sidereal tropical mix-up" oops, I heard of quite a few). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_and_tropical_astrology ORIGINAL ARTICLE ![]() Sidereal . TIME & TRUTH ARE ETERNAL: Its all in the Stars . There are various, different classifications of Astrology, amongst them, there are 2 differing types called SIDEREAL and TROPICAL . SIDEREAL: goes by the actual constellations . TROPICAL: goes by the seasons . I grew up learning regular Tropical astrology. A few times I went out and looked at the stars, but the planets and moon were off by one sign from my magazine (or planetary ephemeris), the Moon was in Virgo but I could see it definitely in the constellation of Leo, I soon found out that regular Astrology did not match the Stars, while Sidereal Astrology (the original astrology) does match the Stars. And after years of studying both systems, I found Sidereal to be more valid with current events and peoples personalities. How, why, and what the difference is, is listed below (this page), while a good detailed case in favor of the Sidereal system is at Archure's Chart AND excellent arguement in favor of Sidereal astrology see Sigmund Freud's Chart . As per Tropical astrology (Tropical is regular astrology in the USA and England), the first day of Spring, is the first day of Aries (or the day the Sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac). Yet, the reality is, on the first day of Spring, the Sun is way back at the beginning of the Pisces Constellation, the actual stars, and does not reach stars of Aries Constellation till 25 days later. . We owe all of the confusion to apparently well meaning Ptolemy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptolemy who declared the 1st day of Aries is the 1st day of Spring, which it was in his day. The Sun used to enter Aries on the first day of Spring, around the year 221 AD (in May of that year, the 2 systems matched exactly, with only a small difference between the two systems, only a degree or so difference over hundreds of years). The difference is a slow moving drift between the seasons and the stars due to a slight wobble in the earth, this drift is termed "the Procession of the Equinoxes" and is known to astronomers (who tend to scoff at astrology; yet Newton, Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo were astrologers (Halley was not). The "Procession" shifts around one sign every 2,000 years, or 12 signs times 2,000 years = one full cycle of the zodiac every 24,000 years. note 1) each astrological Age lasts around 2,000 years, and the transition is determined by the degrees difference between the 2 systems. THERE ARE 30 DEGREES IN EACH SIGN (30 degrees X 12 signs = 360 degree circle), and the Sun moves thru the signs around one degree a day (well, a little more, as there are 365 day in a year, not 360). We went from the Age of Aries to the Age of Pisces in May of 221 AD, but we are still in the Age of Pisces, it may be the dawning of the age of the age of Aquarius, but it has not dawned yet and wont for (couple of hundred years?, lets see, 2,000/30 degrees times 5 degrees left to go, that's around? 333 years, or around the year 2333 AD. It will not be in our expected lifetime (medical breakthroughs?). So we are in the Age of Pisces still. ![]() As Proof, you can go to the store and get a magazine on ASTROLOGY and a magazine on ASTRONOMY and you will see, that for the same month, the planets are all around one sign BACK in the Astronomy magazine. . And, next time the Moon is in Virgo by the regular Tropical Astrology, go out and clearly see the Moon in Leo (easy constellation to view), its no mistake, it is intentional blasphemy (in my opinion). . OK, now that your are beginning to see it . TO MAKE THINGS MORE CONFUSING . #1) Astronomers gauge the heavens by RA or Right Ascension, which is based upon the First Day of Spring, not the stars. . And more confusing #2) Astronomers must make a slight readjustment every 35 years to compensate for this. Why 35 years I don't know, but they have to change it every once in a while, it is only a slight, slow, shift, but over thousands of years it is noticeable, as in the chart of Jesus born 1.7.3 AD at 4:50 am (around Jerusalem, Bethlehem), which, due to the procession of the Equinoxes, by the regular Tropical Astrology would make his Solar Return (birthday) on Jan 7th, but due to the shift between the seasons and the stars, his birthday or solar return by the stars (sidereal) is not until around Feb 3rd in this day and age (year 2000). For more, see Jesus' Astrological Chart/ Jesus was arrested 7.31.34AD at 11.15pm and died 8.1.34AD at 3pm with astrological events exactly coinciding with biblical events I have found in the Living Bible 1971 ed). . Over the past 200 years, even the United States does not really celebrate its real solar return until around July 7th (a couple of days off, due to the shift between stars and seasons over the past 200 years, by the way, that's around 3 days, or 3 degrees in 200 years., so we know we wont be to the Age of Aquarius for at least that, as we have 5 degrees to go yet). . #3) To make things even more confusing that ever, astrologers take the Right Ascension (which is based the same as Tropical Astrology or the Seasons (not the stars)) and they base a Time System upon it, which they just had to name "SIDEREAL TIME" (which is the term for the Astrology that uses the Stars, not the Seasons), Idiots (thanks like switching the names on the Men's room and Women room). . NOW WAIT A MINUTE, NOW I'M GETTING CONFUSED, naw, you'll figure it out, its simple when you get down to it. . The world is full of confusion, and you wonder why? "don't want anyone to figure out the tricks of the trade, else I'll be outta work" says the Astronomer, as well as the Auto Mechanic, and so on.... and/or one can look at the Right Ascension on a map of the stars, and determine within 500 years "when" the astro map was made; either way, I think is lame and blasphemy. Yes we want to honor the first day of spring, the seasons, but to have to go changing star coordinates all the time due to spring, I think someone messed up someplace. From a Astrological view, you can look at anything and put Aries at the beginning: where you live, the edge of the sidewalk to your lawn is Aries, and the back of your back yard is Pisces; or the front of your car is Aries, the tail lights are Pisces; but to base not only popular astrology, but all of science upon Spring, I don't think so, but that's what they do. . WIKIPEDIA ON "PROCESSION OF THE EQUINOXES" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procession_of_the_equinoxes#Astronomy WIKIPEDIA ON "SIDEREAL ASTROLOGY" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_astrology . watch the stars . ![]() . Now "recorded" history goes back to around Ancient Egypt, and they followed the Stars, as is evident in ancient hieroglyphics (including hieroglyphics of the 12 signs, just as they are today). . "The Hermetica" by Freke & Gandy (translators) was translated from the original version by Hermes in 3000 BC, to Greek, and then to English by the authors (there are other versions/translations). "The Hermetica makes continual reference to the Zodiac, the Stars, and their influences. . "Fingerprints of the Gods" by Graham Hancock (great book) discusses the Procession of the Equinoxes to the point where we know that, back in those times, the Sphinx faced the East, to the exact point where, in those days only, the constellation of Leo rose, and Leo looks just like the Sphinx, cool (thus a Statue faced the Stars which it represented. See pg 457 "Fingerprints of the Gods"). . Desmond Morris famed Anthropologist/Zoologist says that "the human brain has not evolved much over the past million years" so we know that those in the days of the Pyramids were no fools, and we know that they watched the Stars. . (Graham Hancock also has another book "Heavens Mirror", which covers more on the Ancient Civilizations who followed the Stars, in Cambodia, Peru, Bolivia, Egypt, the Americas, and the Pacific Islands.) . So doesn't if figure that the Signs should be based upon the Star Constellations? Yes it does. But as I grew up and learned astrology, I heard only little of Sidereal Astrology. A few times I went out and looked at the stars, and admittedly had been smoking pot (I inhaled in the 60's and loved it, but got good grades in school, top of my math classes etc, used to smoke it before class, inspired me, made math and thinking fun), so I began to wonder what was going on, the planets did not match the signs (at first I thought I was just "stoned", but I was inspired to figure out the error; but started asking around (explaining my cosmic confusion to my hip, college educated, older friends), and soon found out that regular Astrology did not match the Stars, while Sidereal Astrology does. I was able to get a book on Sidereal back in 1968 (age 15) but I thought, if the rest of the world goes by Tropical/Seasons, then Why does no one go by the stars? or Why did they ever go by the stars? or Why did they ever shift? (to keep it a secret, no doubt, tricks of the trade). . Its hard to be a Sidereal Astrologer, because most people think Astrology is "coo coo" in the first place, they laugh and make fun of you. But when you start saying that they are a different sign than they think they are, well then its the nut house in their eyes, they begin to get this worried look, they stop laughing, and they start to sweat. . Yet from my observations, and I have studied both systems for many years, Sidereal Astrology is way more valid than Tropical Astrology. The most famous quotation in astrology was Sir Isaac Newton telling off Hally for not believing in astrology, Newton said "Sir, I have studied it, you have not", which can be re-used towards Sidereal Astrology. I tell my Tropical astrologer friends that "I have studied it, you have not". . Sidereal Astrologer: Will Chris Holley www.ARCHURE.net |
