COLOR CORUPTIONS ON THE NET
Some sytems (depending upon computer settings or your ISP), that some COLORS such as maroon or burgundy might appear light Pink, Orange may appear Yellow, and other color alterations (due to some systems using the 16 color system of False Colors (drastic alterations of not only Shade but also of Hue), while not using the available system of 24 colors (true colors: i.e. color wheel: 12 colors, being: 3 Primary, 3 Secondary, and 6 Tertiary colors). Archure is an artist, an expert in color frequency harmonics, and hopes that someday there will be an international standardization of colors on the web (at 24 Colors, allowing the 12 True colors), allowing for Maroon and Burgandy etc, to be shown as their actual colors.
THIS COLOR CHART FOR EXAPLE: shows that the 16 based system shows only 5 of the 12 "color wheel" colors (and NO VARIATION of SHADING works on the 16 based system). Pink (light shade of red-violet only), Primary Red, Primary Yellow, Light Green, 2 shade of Primary Blue (actually the light blue is technically a bluish green, but appears as a light Primary Blue, different shades of the same color). Leaving NO Orange-Red, NO Orange, NO Orange-Yellow, NO Yellow-Green, NO Blue-Green, NO BLUE VIOLET (indigo), NO VIOLET or PURPLE, and NO DARKER SHADE of RED-VIOLET (only a light red-violet PINK). I saw this corruption of colors to my web page colors (which look fine on most systems), on a Dell Laptop (ISP unknown) just the other day. I have lots of INDIGO, VIOLET, and MAROON on my web pages (being an ARTIST) and it all appears PINK.

COMPUTER RULE 1: Never be the first one to UPGRADE your software. As, often they don't have everything right upon the release date, and you are the victim.

HARDWARE:

DELL computers have for over 10 years been rated as The BEST, by programers, computer professors, and Consumer Reports (magazine and online,
http://www.consumerreports.org/ online costs $24 per year, well worth it). Gateway is listed as number 2, but has a better rating for Tech Support and Customer Service.

I recently upgraded my old Dell (which I had originally special ordered with a Pentium processor) by going to Best Buy (advised by many including myself) and getting a 120 gig Western Digital hard drive, and Win XP Home Ed (which I am very pleased with, good work MS, best thing they have done, far better than other versions). Western Digital is what my Dell came with. MICROPOLIS is a very excellent brand but quite expensive (we used PRIAM and MICROPOLIS at Quotron Systems back in the 1980's, Quotron pioneered the internet, by providing the worlds Stock Exchange System (Stock Exchanges: NY, Pacific, London, Tokyo, Sydney, etc). When I first started in 1987, the first new 1 MEG ram card had just come out (around 18 inches by 18 inches), and we could jumper 2 together for a theoretical 2 meg of ram, and I used to lift heavy 20 lbs drives into the mainfraims, PRIAM 6 Meg I believe it was, wow. Part of my job was to test and refurbish old drives (reformat, reallocate bad sectors, and reload and retest), thus salvaging drives which were thought to be scrap. Our department had lots of brains, and we had a Think Tank session weekly, and many of our ideas were used to pioneer the internet (e-mail, instant messages, links), as well as the humorous title for the book DOWNSIZE THIS (when we were all being laid off). The US Gubment used to come in to study our work, not inspect or be critical, but to get good ideas from us.

TRUSTED NAMES in ELECTRONICS:

I trust the names of Panasonic, SONY, DELL (best computers for a long time), Samsung, Hewlet Packard (they make the top professional electronic equipment, but their line of computers for the general public are not as spectacular, but probably up to par, check Consumer Reports.

ISP's

ISPs: Years ago when my old computer became outdated, I went to WebTV (Microsoft) to surf the net, and they really did good things with MIDI and a "creating your own web page" section. and Web TV was a great concept (save everything on their end), but they never got the bugs out. I graduated to Web Hosting at Yahoo (after consulting lots of experts at a Web trade show in Las vegas)

I gave up on MSN years ago, after 2 months of no service (could not get online 95% of the time during the 2 months) and at least 80 to 100 tech support calls (90% of them passed the buck, and maybe 2% tried to help but couldn't, and I never could get the Passport thing to work. I thought that they ruined my computer, but then I went back to AOL and had no issues for a while, till they started disconnecting me after 30 minutes for no apparant reason (not a chat room violation, just surfing the net).

I currently have COX Cable, the quality is good but the installation person stole a box of software containing over $1000 of software which I was getting ready to load in my new computer

Dell makes the best computers as per my professors back in 1995 and more recent reports from Consumer Reports and programming experts)

I tend to trust the names of Yahoo & Dell. I checked Consumer Reports, but they had no data on ISP's, but did list some good SEARCH ENGINES (more below).

SEARCH ENGINES

Consumer Reports online says that
Google and AskJeves are the best search engines, with search.yahoo.com (I am usually at Yahoo or Wikipedia (Yahoo also does great Web Hosting, and has many excellent features, but I have never tried them as an ISP. I do often use Yahoo's Search and am quite pleased with Yahoo (except for some annoying ads, which have been less annoying recently, when I am tryig to get something done, I dont need a 3 ring circus or an annoying child waving stuff in my face, thats what some of their ads have been like).

ANTI VIRUS and FIREWALL

For many years I used NORTON DESKTOP for Windows (very excellent), but when I got a new hard drive and new software and was limited on cash, my ISP
http://1smartisp.net/ strongly advised the FREE VERSION of Griesoft which you can download FREE at http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/
AND http://1smartisp.net/ also lists other softwares, anti virus', etc.

MAKE YOUR OWN WEB PAGES

WEB HOSTING: by Yahoo (regardless of ISP, you can sign up for a free email account with Yahoo, then sign up for Yahoo Web Hosting for only $11.95/mo (thats what I have). I did quite a bit of research with top pros in the business (asking pro's at a major convention in Las Vegas), before starting my own web pages (I originally got started with Web TV, which is a very good concept in computer ideas, but they never got the bugs out) and MOST TOP PRO's ADVISE "Yahoo" for Web Hosting:
http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ //// http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting/ ($11.95 per month, thats what I have, you can see how much room and transfer rate I have, I barely put a dent into what I am entitled to for my $11.95/month).
HOW TO GET STARTED, SEE "HTML" BOOKS SUGGESTED BELOW.....
I think the most of Yahoo. They are leaders in competency, they are a good example to others, they have their act together.

HTML (the language which makes these web pages)
WHAT IS "HTML"?: To see HTML language, go to any page, and on your browser menu, SELECT "VIEW", then SELECT "SOURCE" and a page will appear showing the HTML language. It looks complex at first but its fairly easy. My pages are good for this, because I don't have any JAVA. Java computer language gets quite complex, as most of it is hidden away, and if you use it, you have to pay for other peoples scripts, or use other people scripts, and they remove the source then your sunk. While if you use HTML, its always there.
My HTML
COLOR CHART EXPLANATION page has LINKS to online Tutorials on HTML, but its best to get some BOOKS (suggested below)
3 HTML Books: (my favorites and most useful in my library)
1) HTML Goodies by Burns (NOT "More HTML Goodies", get the original book, the other is not for beginners and wont really help like "HTML Goodies" will). The info is all online http://www.htmlgoodies.com/ but its more clearly understood with the book for beginners, very simple (the web site you might get lost?)
2) HTML Pocket Ref  by Niederst (O'Reilly press)
3) "Web Hosting in a Nutshell" (O'Reilly press)
and other Books by www.oreilly.com
BEGINNERS: DO get a copy of HTML Goodies by Joe Burns, he makes it so easy for beginners, its easy, his way.

ONLINE TUTORIALS in HTML: (Outstanding)
HTML STANDARDS ORGANIZATION (the Best)

COMPARE VARIOUS COLOR CHARTS! (MicroSoft's & Archure's charts)
Archure's NEW COLOR CHART
COLOR CHART Explanation and
MICRO SOFTS's COLOR CHART

(fonts come in black & white, I apply my own color schemes)
FONTS: can improve your web pages, they are an artistic image
Clothes make the man, Fonts make the web page
I got LOTS of fonts (thousands) at www.1001freefonts.com but it cost me around $9.95 (buy so many and get some free kind of thing, but well worth it). The fonts take hours to download with a 55K baud modem, and must be UNZIPPED with www.winzip.com which is free for one month, then costs around $30 if you wish to use it again. (WinZip is recommended by Burns in "HTML Goodies", an excellent book). WHEN YOU UNZIP you must OPEN the file and then "EXTRACT" the file (take you all day if you didn't know that, then don't tell you, I learned from Dr Nancy Reynolds at Saddleback College, Mission Viejo CA USA, and she also said, instead of telling people to "hit" the INY KEY ("any key"), tell them to PRESS or SELECT the INY KEY, in order to encourage non-violence in society (funny concept, but true)

(fonts come in black & white, I apply my own color schemes)

(I made multiple images of this font in "Fibonacci" 1.618034 proportion)

(I added a photo of the moons surface to this font above
and a Mercury planetary view background to the font below,
these are Transparent Gifs for overlaying, some softwares make transparant gifs, some do not. I have "MGI Photo Suite" ver 1.06 which came with a digital camera I have, which no longer works, because the camera software (different software) does not work with XP, so I had to buy a new camera (theres a statement with a message for you).

HEY, CHECK THIS OUT!
I got this Software from "Ned May" (after reading about his work at wikipedia) for only $30 from http://chromatism.net/cfsg.htm
I wrote a thank you letter to Ned, and added that I would plug him on the net, but said I would hold back a month or so, so that people would think I am brilliant (and I am) as I make such interesting graphics (clever trick, I bought the software) but I was born with a very high IQ anway. SEE pictures made with Ned May's "Custom Fibonacci Spiral Generator" samples below

HTML SOFTWARES: (I never use them, well I did a couple of times, not worth it)
MS FRONT PAGE & DREAM WEAVER
But I advise learning HTML from Scratch, as these softwares get more complex and can really mess things up (it automatically adds html commands that I do not want), in the long run you have to learn HTML anyway, and its easy enough, I rarely use my MS Front Page. Yahoo web hosting comes with its own online HTML software program, but I don't bother with that either. Learn from scratch.
