Animals do have rights, they have the right to not be harmed according to Tom Regan, professor emeritus of philosophy at North Carolina State University, and he also says "those who support current animal agriculture by purchasing meat have a moral obligation to stop doing so" and that "the individual has a duty to lead a vegetarian way of life".
Gary L. Francione, professor of Law at Rutgers School of Law-Newark says there is "no moral justification for using nonhumans for our purposes".
Darwin quote: "There is no fundamental difference between man and the higher animals in their mental faculties... The lower animals, like man, manifestly feel pleasure and pain, happiness, and misery."-Charles Darwin.
YOU are an animal, in fact your a GREAT APE, Humans and Bonobos are more closely related to each other, than to a Common Chimpanzee, Gorilla, or Orangutan. All Great Apes (and proud of it), or even further to Siamang Gibbons.
MY STORY: I met vegans when I was a kid and was impressed by them. My non-vegetarian grandfather worked at Paramount Pictures and said that the very top people in the biz were vegans. I hoped to be a vegan someday but my family did not want to go to Chinatown to get soy milk which was not in regular stores back then, and at one point my family was under court order to feed me veal. My mom frequented Cantors Deli in Hollywood, and forced me to eat tongue, while she ate brain with scrambled eggs (I never did like eggs, they forced me to eat meat, but I would not eat eggs).
I became a vegetarian at age 15, thanks to neighbor friends, Jeanie Doe dancer/violinist, and Marcus McCallen musician, who convinced my grandparents it was safe; but for family reasons that even vegans understood (everyone except me), I reluctantly gave up vegetarianism for around 13 years, with the intent of going back to it someday, and did.
I am back on a strict Vegetarian Diet since Aug 1992 except one last meal of meat January 1993 (when a family member gave it up entirely), and on an even stricter Vegan diet since December 22 1998

Make Meat Illegal Worldwide (non-retroactive)
Restaurants can serve rice, beans, pasta, veggies, fruit. www.pcrm.org "Power Plate". Former butchers can be placed in other jobs, Cowboys will still be needed for spaying and neutering animals, probably best to be certified.
We have plenty of food, the animals are all stuffed, Animals eat 5 times as much food as we do, we can feed them less, spay an neuter them, allow them to live out their natural lives, and use the surplus to help starving people, here and around the globe (thru the United Nation) which we already do, but could do more, even more surplus to help more people, and that's the kind of American Reputation we want, the Good Guys (because there are still people starving around the World, and still people hungry here in the USA).
It took some geniuses many years of research to determine that vegetarianism is a healthier option; and now with the manufacture of B vitamins its a happy option. Lack of B vitamins causes depression (naturally found in liver or seaweed). Now with more research, The China Study, and www.pcrm.org "Power Plate", we find even more evidence in favor of veganism. I am convinced that our aquatic ancestors ate nutritious seaweed, not fish (sharks tend to attack fish eaters more than vegans is what I heard tell around the beach. I also heard that sharks have a good sense of smell, are scavengers and if they smell dead carcass they go after it). Don't eat shark before going swimming. Don't bring a chicken sandwich on that hike around Las Vegas which is near the Grand Canyon (50 miles away) home to many Condors with 11 feet wingspans (14 feet and larger has been reported). Put aside the bad habit of Meat. The human digestive system is that of a vegetarian, our ancestors did not eat meat, its not natural for us, its not healthy, and we end up raising way more domesticated animals and having to feed them 5 times more than we feed ourselves. Lets us learn from the professors and research and geniuses, and simply make Meat Illegal for all of society.
The China Study examines the relationship between the consumption of animal products (including dairy) and chronic illnesses such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and bowel cancer. The authors conclude that people who eat a whole-food, plant-based vegan dietóavoiding all animal products, including beef, pork, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese, and milk, and reducing their intake of processed foods and refined carbohydratesówill escape, reduce, or reverse the development of numerous diseases. They write that "eating foods that contain any cholesterol above 0 mg is unhealthy".

Anthropologists and Human Evolutionists say the average IQ has actually gone down in the past 20,000 years. The real REASON MANKIND HAS ADVANCED SO RAPIDLY with Science and Technology, is greater POPULATION, and greater POPULATION DENSITY, leading to greater COMMUNICATIONS and access to verified, scientific, information. Thus, now with the INTERNET, we are bound for even greater INFORMATION COMMUNICATIONS soon, leading to Greater and Quicker ADVANCES IN MANKIND; in just a few years, in just a few seconds, its already happening at www.ARCHURE.net
